Resiliency vs. Masking
It’s not an easy world, or at least not all the time. How does a person know “Am I coping or am I shoving down?” “Am I in flight, fight, freeze, fawn or am I moving toward a more adaptive identity?” “What does this new haircut, move to a new city, or tattoo mean about me and for me?” “Am I helping myself right now or am I setting myself and others up for harm in the future?”
“AM I AVOIDING PAIN OR AM I CHANGING INTO THE PERSON THAT I WANT TO BE?”
These are questions I welcome processing with you. As an unbiased observer and a participant in the world we are living in. Contact me through the contact form on this page at any time.
In the meantime; I recommend beginning with your narrative. A simple timeline, age 0-current age, with plenty of room to add events. This is challenging because photographs, family and friends version of your history, other’s stories about you may impact your memories. Start with a blank page and your timeline. Connect with yourself through meditation and attentiveness to your feelings. No photos or other’s stories of you. Connect with your pain, your joy, your anger, your compassion, your shame, your confusion, your confidence, your horror, your grief, your love, your arrogance, your generosity, your jealousy, your envy, your humor, your creativity, and your loneliness…..and…your “stuff”…all of the feelings. etc. The gaps can be filled in as needed.
Timeline of your own creation with zero input from those around you is an interesting exercise. I do this myself, and add to my timeline as various themes and memories arise. You are always welcome to a neutral third party or to process this experience by contacting me.
